Course Supplies

Camera Requirments:

Students must have a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that must have full manual control of both aperture, shutter, and focus. Mirrorless cameras can also be used but must have interchangeable lens capability and full manual control of both aperture, shutter, and focus. (Note some Fuji Rangefinder cameras have fixed lenses and also might work for the class requirements).

A digital "point and shoot", "all in one" style of camera or "smartphone" cameras, do not have true optical exposure controls and will not allow you to complete the desired goals of this class and are therefore not permitted to be used in this class.

Recommended cameras include the Canon Rebel series, or the Nikon 3000 or 5000 series DSLR cameras. Plan on spending $500+ for a camera.

If buying a used camera remember "caveat emptor" (buyer beware), do some research, and find out how old the camera is. Models that don't shoot video are probably more than 8 years old and are probably not worth buying. (We will not be using the cameras for video features in this class. The video feature is mentioned due to the fact that all current camera models have this capability).

Supplies Required:

- A minimum of one or two 16 to 65 GB Media Cards for your camera.
- Computer (class submissions will be online)
- A camera cleaning kit.
- An 18% Photographic Graycard

Supplies Recommended:

- Portable Hard Drive
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom or another program to allow for viewing and organizing the management of your digital images.
- A Tripod

I highly recommend that you shop around for the best pricing. Always ask about student discounts.
